What does it mean to build a home when the world tells you that you don’t belong?

For those of us seeking asylum, the current political noise brings fear—but our local communities bring hope. We are RAS Voice, and this is our message to the country we live in.

We are your neighbours, not political tools

We are your neighbours, your colleagues, and members of your communities. We are refugees and people seeking asylum. We are the campaigning group, RAS Voice.

The results of the May 2026 local elections, combined with yet another Unite the Kingdom march in London calling for mass deportation, have brought deep worry, instability, and fear into our daily lives. We are deeply hurt and angered to see our lives, our safety, and our basic human rights reduced to hostile headlines and cheap political talking points.

When political leaders use fear to divide us, ordinary people suffer. This hostile rhetoric does not stay in parliament—it spills onto our streets. It breeds racism, creates division, and fosters hatred among neighbours who should be standing together.

But alongside the fear, we are given hope by a huge community that offers us welcome and humanity.

We know that strong communities are not built through blame and hostility, but through dignity, compassion, and belonging for everyone. True democracy does not target the vulnerable; it protects them.

We are human beings seeking safety, dignity, and the chance to belong.”

Our call to action

Seeking safety is a fundamental human right. Our campaign for justice does not undermine this country—it strengthens it. One diversified, united country will build a stronger nation that will remain economically stable. A united, diverse nation that embraces everyone is a stronger, more stable nation for all.

We call on political leaders and our local communities to reject fear and division. Instead, let us build unity and welcome. Choose humanity. Choose unity.

We are human beings seeking safety, dignity, and the chance to belong. Because that is what everyone deserves and needs to live.

Hope is stronger than hate.
