Host a Potluck for Refugee Action

Your famous spag bol, your uncle’s biryani or a sneaky haul from the local shop – what will you bring to the table?

By organising a Potluck meal, you’re doing more than just sharing food, you’re sharing stories and taking action. Your Potluck will bring us closer to a UK where refugees are safe, supported and welcomed with open arms.

In the last year, we’ve seen how important it is to come together as a community, to stand up against division and intolerance. By bringing your friends or colleagues together for a Potluck meal, you’re standing with people seeking safety, and celebrating the diversity that makes us stronger.

Join our movement of people standing with refugees, one Potluck at a time.

Host a Potluck, and take action for refugees with every bite.

HOSTING A POTLUCK IS POWERFUL AND EASY!

Each person brings a dish that means something to them, or even just something they’ve grabbed from the shop. This could be a food you grew up with, a meal that represents your heritage, or simply your favourite snack.

You choose when and where you host your Potluck, and each one of your guests donates to Refugee Action.

Everything raised helps create a UK that is a safe and welcoming place for refugees and people seeking safety. It funds our services that support refugees, and it powers our campaigns that fight for their rights.

In life, we’re all dealt different hands

YOUR POTLUCK WILL GIVE HOPE TO PEOPLE LIKE JOSE

For people like Jose and his family, life in Venezuela became a battle against injustice.

As a human rights advocate, Jose fought for his community’s rights to basic needs like food and clean water. His activism, however, made him a target, forcing him, his wife, and their two children to flee to the UK in search of safety in February 2022.

When they arrived, the challenges continued. The family was placed in temporary hotel accommodation in Birmingham, a stark environment with no reminders of the vibrant traditions or familiar foods they left behind. Jose, his wife, and their children were given two small rooms, where they spent nearly 18 months. The family’s experiences were tough; the food provided in the hotel was often unhealthy and unfamiliar, and the limited resources left them struggling to find comfort in an unwelcoming space.

“The food quality was awful, and my children could barely eat the food, but unfortunately, we didn’t have a choice. It was very unhealthy and greasy with a minimum of fresh ingredients.”

Through Refugee Action’s support, Jose and his family were recently moved to a more stable home where they can begin to rebuild their lives.

Now, he can look forward to cooking the foods his family loves, reestablishing traditions that remind them of home and giving them hope for the future.

Sign up to organise your own Potluck event and bring your loved ones together in solidarity with refugees.

Every dish shared will help build a fairer future for refugees like Jose in the UK.

Jessica’s Potluck feast

“I work remotely so getting together with my colleagues is always a treat. Rather than go out for a meal, we decided to organise a Potluck lunch in the office. It was SO easy- we all brought dishes that we love to cook. It was such a lovely way to share yummy food together, catch up properly and get to know each other better. We had an array of dishes from fish tacos, Moroccan lamb, Vietnamese salads, prawn cocktails to banana bread. Each of us donated the money we would have spent on lunch, to support families trying to rebuild their lives with dignity. It really was a win-win lunch- super easy to organise, delicious food, great for team building whilst supporting families, just like us. I would highly recommend organising one with your team- we’ll definitely be doing another soon!” – Jessica, Spice Kitchen.
